
The Science of Reading
Canyon Professional Development is proud to be an approved vendor for both Part A (45 hours) and Part B (45 hours) of the Arizona Department of Education’s K–5 Literacy Endorsement approved trainings. This 90 clock hours of training will fulfil the coursework requirement to obtain the K-5 Literacy Endorsement.*
Arizona’s Science of Reading (SOR) initiative ensures that all educators have the knowledge and tools to teach every student to read using evidence-based practices that align with how the brain learns to read.
Our training modules are designed to meet the Arizona Department of Education’s required competencies, providing educators with clear, structured, and practical professional learning that directly supports classroom implementation.
Part A
Purpose:
To build a deep understanding of how students learn to read and the research behind effective reading instruction.
Focus: Understand how reading develops in the brain. Learn instructional methods grounded in reading research. Strengthen Tier 1 instruction to ensure all students receive high-quality, evidence-based teaching.
Part B
Purpose:
To extend and apply Science of Reading knowledge to identify, plan, and deliver effective reading interventions, including support for students with dyslexia.
Focus: Apply the Science of Reading framework to real classroom practice. Use assessment data to identify reading difficulties and plan targeted interventions. Learn how to support students with dyslexia through evidence-based instructional practices. Deepen understanding of diagnostic decision-making and progress monitoring.

Options
Educators, schools, and districts can select the training format that best fits their needs:
Synchronous Options: Four day in-person workshops, virtual, synchronous workshops, and customized on-site trainings.*Part A (45 hours) and Part B (45 hours)
Asynchronous Modules: Complete 90 hours asynchronously through Solutions To Go, with six months of access to self-paced modules. *Part B will be available soon
Both options provide practical, structured literacy practices designed to close reading gaps, strengthen instruction, and support student success.
Science of Reading Workshop Events
Asynchronous Modules
Join Canyon Professional Development’s Solutions To Go platform and complete the 90 clock hours of asynchronous trainings aligned with the K-5 Literacy Endorsement training requirements. These modules are self-paced and present the latest research on the Science of Reading, introduce phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. These modules allow teachers to explore structured literacy practices in a flexible format that fits their schedule. Participants will have access to the Science of Reading modules for six months from the date they register.
In-Person Workshops
Hosted by Canyon Professional Development
Canyon Professional Development offers an in-person workshop series aligned with the K–5 Literacy Endorsement training requirements. Participants are required to attend four in-person sessions for Part A and four in-person sessions for Part B. An additional 30 hours of independent study through the Solutions To Go platform is required for participants to meet the full 90 clock-hour requirement. This synchronous training presents strategies in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Participants will have the opportunity to explore structured literacy practices. These experiences are designed to support teachers in learning about approaches that can help close reading gaps, strengthen classrooms, and promote student success in literacy.*

In-Person Workshops
Hosted in Collaboration With Arizona School Districts
Canyon Professional Development is proud to partner with Arizona school districts to offer an in-person workshop series aligned with the Arizona K–5 Literacy Endorsement requirements. The training includes four in-person sessions for Part A and four for Part B, along with 30 hours of independent study through the Solutions To Go platform to complete the 90 clock-hour requirement. Districts may also host the training for their staff, helping reduce costs and making participation more convenient for teachers.
